. . . poor guy had an affair with a canary and got chirpies . . .
[CONTRIBUTED BY ROB FRANKEL. DESCRIPTION BY UNCLE RICKY.]
This is the last 2 hours and 15 minutes of Dan Ingram on WABC from Friday, May 7, 1982. The station was beginning a new talk format the following week, and Dan was planning to take seven weeks off (with pay) before beginning his new job with satellite format SuperRadio. This was the last time Dan worked afternoon drive on WABC, but it was not Big Dan's last MusicRadio appearance; that aired the following Monday when Ron Lundy joined him for the last goodbye.
The exceptional fidelity of this studio recording reveals Dan is relaxed and enjoying himself with a "rowdy bunch" of friends and their champagne. The music mix is current Adult Contemporary plus oldies, there is no reverb, and that helps create a more up-close and personal WABC than we've heard before.
Newsmen Rick James and Palmer Payne are featured and Howard Cosell makes an appearance, along with additional hosts for traffic and weather. As a reminder that everyone worked in the same room, loud laughter from Dan's party is heard during the newscasts!
